Make a Live Dashboard with Claude

Start with a real data source, then turn one question into charts you can explore.

What this helps you do

Connect data, ask one question, and inspect a Claude Dashboard and the query behind it.

Before you start

Claude Dashboards is a beta for eligible paid plans. You need access to a supported connected data source with data you are allowed to use. See Anthropic’s setup guide.

Terms to know

Data source is the app or warehouse holding the records. Query is the request used to calculate a chart. Refresh time tells you when the result last updated.

Step-by-step

  1. Connect an authorized data source in Claude and confirm that Claude can read the relevant table or app.
  2. Ask one concrete question with a time range and grouping, such as weekly signups by plan.
  3. Open the generated dashboard. Check chart labels, units, and the date range.
  4. Ask for a filter, such as region, and try each value.
  5. Open a chart to inspect the underlying query and its last refresh time. Compare one number with the source.

Paste this in the tool named above. Replace each bracketed detail with your own information.

Using my connected [DATA SOURCE], create a dashboard of weekly [METRIC] for the last six months, split by [CATEGORY]. Add a [FILTER] control. Show the query and refresh time for each chart. Tell me if any data is missing rather than filling gaps.

Things to know

Anthropic’s October 8 release shows a bike-share dashboard built from a year of rides. Its embedded demo and images are useful examples. A live dashboard requires connected data. Availability varies by plan and workspace settings.

If something goes wrong

If no dashboard appears, check beta access and the data connection. If the totals look wrong, inspect the query, date boundaries, missing rows, and refresh time before sharing.

Final check

A pass is a dashboard with a working filter and one figure you can reconcile to the source.
