Turn a PDF Into a Clickable Visual Guide With Claude

Upload instructions, ask for one illustrated step at a time, and redraw the step you need help with.

Turn a PDF Into a Clickable Visual Guide With Claude

Give Claude a manual and ask for a guide that shows one step at a time. Keep the original PDF beside the result so you can check each instruction.

What this helps you do

Make a long set of instructions easier to follow, then ask for a closer view of the part that is confusing.

Before you start

Use a PDF you have permission to upload. Start with a short, low-risk example, such as setting up a desk organizer. Open Claude on your computer and attach the file with the chat's upload control. See Claude's file-upload instructions if the document will not attach.

Terms to know

  • Visual guide: an explanation with pictures, labels, and steps.
  • Interactive: controls let you choose a step or change what is shown.
  • Source page: the PDF page supporting an instruction.

Step-by-step

  1. Upload the PDF and ask Claude to list the steps with their source page numbers. Compare that list with the manual first.
  2. Paste the prompt below. Ask for a Next and Back button and one step per screen.
  3. Check the first screen against the PDF. Look for the correct part names, order, and warnings.
  4. Choose a confusing step. Ask: “Redraw step 3 with bigger labels and a close-up of where the two parts connect. Keep the original instructions.”
  5. Test every button. If a diagram changes an important detail, use the original PDF and ask Claude to correct that screen.

Use the attached PDF to make a clickable visual guide with one step on screen at a time. Add Next, Back, and a step list. For each step, show the action, a simple labeled illustration, and its source PDF page number. Preserve the source's part names, order, and warnings. Do not invent missing connections, measurements, or instructions. Mark anything the PDF does not explain and ask me for the missing information. Start by showing the step outline for my review.

Redraw step [NUMBER] with larger labels and a close-up of [PART OR CONNECTION]. Show what happens before and after this step. Keep the PDF's instructions and warnings, and identify the source page so I can check it.

Things to know

Claude's custom visuals depend on the supported interface and account. An illustration can simplify or misread a part. For assembly that affects safety, follow the manufacturer's manual and get qualified help when needed.

If something goes wrong

  • No clickable guide appears: ask Claude to build an interactive HTML artifact with the same steps.
  • The PDF is hard to read: upload a clearer copy or paste the relevant text.
  • A label or connection is wrong: point to the source page and request a correction before continuing.

Final check

Every step has a source page, the buttons work, and the confusing step is clearer without changing the original instructions.
